Casino Entertainment as a Leisure Activity

Casino participation should remain an optional form of paid leisure. It is not a source of income, an investment strategy or a reliable way to solve financial problems. Outcomes are uncertain, and money spent should be treated as an entertainment cost.

A person should participate only when calm, informed and able to stop. Do not participate while trying to cope with distress, fatigue, conflict or financial pressure.

Age and Identification

Ontario casino access is restricted to guests aged 19 or older. Valid government-issued identification may be required. A reservation, restaurant booking or website enquiry does not override casino age restrictions or venue eligibility checks.

Adults are responsible for preventing minors from using their identification, funds or accounts in connection with gambling activity.

Set Money and Time Limits

Decide the maximum amount of money and time before entering a casino area. Use funds that are not required for housing, food, transport, health, debt, education, savings or family obligations. Do not increase the limit because of losses or excitement.

Use a timer, take regular breaks and review the decision to continue. Leave when the limit is reached, even if the session has been short or the outcome feels unfinished.

Do Not Chase Losses

Attempting to recover losses by continuing or increasing spending can accelerate harm. Each game outcome is uncertain, and previous losses do not make a future win due.

Do not borrow money, use credit intended for essential expenses, sell possessions or conceal spending in order to continue. A pause is appropriate whenever limits begin to change during a visit.

Recognising Signs of Harm

Warning signs can include spending more than intended, repeated failed attempts to stop, hiding activity, borrowing money, missing obligations, conflict with family, reduced work performance, persistent thoughts about gambling, irritability when not participating or using gambling to escape difficult feelings.

One sign does not establish a diagnosis, but a pattern deserves attention. Early support can reduce financial, emotional and relationship harm.

Breaks and Self-Exclusion

A guest may ask venue staff about available break or self-exclusion procedures. In Ontario, OLG’s My PlayBreak programme provides a formal way to take a break from participating at Ontario casino locations for a selected period.

Self-exclusion is a practical protective tool, not a punishment. It works best when combined with financial controls, support from trusted people and professional assistance where needed.

Ontario Support Resources

ConnexOntario provides free and confidential information and referral support for problem gambling services across Ontario, available 24 hours a day. Phone: 1-866-531-2600. Text: CONNEX to 247247.

PlaySmart Centres are available at Ontario land-based gambling venues and can provide information, breaks and connections to support resources. The Responsible Gambling Council also provides safer-play education and information for individuals, friends and families.

In an immediate emergency or where there is a risk of harm, call 911 or use local emergency services.

Support for Friends and Family

Family members and friends can set boundaries around money, avoid covering gambling losses, document shared financial concerns and seek confidential advice. Conversations are usually more productive when they focus on observed behaviour and impact rather than blame.

Support is available even when the person who gambles is not ready to seek help.

Protect Personal and Financial Information

Do not share identification, payment credentials, passwords or financial access with another person. Review account activity regularly and use financial controls provided by banks or card issuers where appropriate.

This website does not accept online wagers, deposits or withdrawals and does not request financial credentials through the contact form.
